  A WALK AROUND THE WORLD

GIRL

An imaginary tour of European capitals, places that evoke special atmospheres ideal for these new looks.

Copenhagen, the city of Hans Christian Andersen, a city filled with romantic, fairytale memories. Copenhagen gives prominence to one of the season’s leading themes’ main colours: brown, pink, acid green and fuchsia.

Fabrics are generally soft; wool and viscose yarns, permitting interplays of layers and pleats. Even classic textiles like fine corduroy are transformed by special washes, ultimately assuming a marbled look. Garments gain volume below the waist, especially dresses, skirts and coats. Trousers, however, have decidedly slim-fit lines.

Milano, seen not only as a centre of finance but of fashion, too. Therefore, shades cool down for “pearly” padded jackets or to colour the maxi floral prints suited to dresses. The trend for carrot-leg trousers is still popular. A cashmere blend and other yarns are used for knitwear.

Berlin is the “youngest” capital, best representing the street look. The palette has dusty pinks and purples. Jersey is double-dyed. Special focus on crumpled faux leather for the jackets.

Barcelona is synonymous with liveliness, something kids apparently know a lot about. In such a context the dominant fabrics are denim, glossy chenille, over-dyed cottons and chunky knitted sweaters. Everything is in dark blue, teal, lilac and fuchsia with a pinch of mottled grey.

London is music. Soft-rock atmospheres blend with black denim, distressed jersey full of graphic motifs, strong cottons. Jackets, five-pocket jeans and T-shirts in shades of black, white, purple and red complete the look.

BOY

A little boy who embodies the American way of life in every way: this is the lead character of the new winter season’s collections.

Colored Avenue in other words the long, tree-lined avenues filled with the variegated autumnal hues we see on reversible jackets, check flannel shirts and wool sweaters with diamond or rugby-stripe patterns. The college look rounds off with twill chinos displaying spot graphic motifs, and flammé jersey articles.

N.Y. Skater zooms around the Big Apple in flashy colours like orange, cornflower blue and green seen on padded jackets, sporty-looking playsuits and knitted sweaters, creating an overall ‘70s look.

Old Stuff a look at the past with an eye to the future. Such as what seems like fleece but is actually woven cloth; or the denim-blue comeback. The palette is composed of teal, grey and purple.

Aviator is synonymous with adventure and freedom. Clothes are equipped with tactical pockets and decorated with graphic motifs on jersey – on an aviation theme, of course. Colours fly from pale cream to dark blue, touching on red and green on the way. Dashes of camel-beige and black complete the palette. The fit is generally body-hugging.

Skull Rock is for those who prefer wearing denim all day teamed with a faux leather jacket, check or striped shirts, sweatshirts and, over everything, a parka to give a vaguely “little protestor” air.
